In the pursuit of happiness and fulfilment, we increasingly come across mentions of:
 
  • Mindfulness
  • Awareness
  • Being conscious
  • Living in the moment
  • Present experience

I’ve heard, read, discussed, tried, misunderstood and relearned much on this ongoing journey of mindfulness and to just be. From my experience, I can recommend adopting a plant.

Once again reminded of Flobot's "Handlebars" song together with quote "With Great Powers Comes Great Responsibility" from Uncle Ben in Spiderman today. Basically, how we have in us the potential for much creation and destruction, hand in hand, side by side.
 
The important question is "Who's keeping tabs?"

A wise old owl sat in an oak,
The more he heard, the less he spoke;
The less he spoke, the more he heard;
Why aren't we all like that wise old bird?

We came across this classic nursery rhyme recently and I found it very apt. The rhyme teaches children the virtues of being quiet - i.e. to be seen and not heard. Just like an owl's behaviour of watching and patiently waiting when hunting its prey in the darkness of the night.

I have a t-shirt that says “Save a Tree for Tomorrow” and I wear it proudly because we did exactly that. It’s a tree (I call it “Big Tree”) right in front of our apartment, greeting us as we awake and shielding us while we sleep.
